The weakness of this article is there is only single measurement of uric acid only.

Kidney transplant

My work is also involve organising kidney transplant, so far we had successfuly done 11 renal tranplants in Nephrology Unit, PPUKM. This is the best modality of renal replacement measure, patients will be very much appreciate it. The quality of life for the renal transplant is much better that the patients in dialysis. Just we are lack of voluntary donors in our country.

Hemodialysis

My works in nephrology invoved of taking care of dialysis patients. The invention of this kind of dialysis machine representing robotic computerised artificial kidneys. It takes care of purification of renal failed blood and ultrafiltration well. Just it lack the other soft skills of human kidneys. The hormonal function of kidney need to be care by nephrologist.

Dialysis is costly to most people, government hospital can not cater all, charity centres tried to help but overloading soon, private centres plenty but costly. So, the best thing we can do it preventing renal failure. But it will be a tought fight we need to face to battle the diabetes, the Malysian number one leading cause to end stage renal failure (ESRF).

clean catch urine

Most patients was not aware of clean catch urine, the proper step by step cleaning of urine part is available in nephrology clinic. Please ask for it. The busy lab technician might forget to instruct you. Void the first half, take the mid stream, pass the urine to the technician, he or she will process it and you will get a better result.

e.g. it can give a supportive evidence of one having glomerulonephritis with dysmorphic type of urine red blood cells, casts etc.

Abnormal dysmorphic urinary red blood cells in glomerulonephritis.

Normal urinary red blood cell in non-glomerulonpehritis hematuria.

Completed PTK4 class today

Learned a lot, very fruitful meeting. Few important lessions on teaching, presentation, proposal writting, puplication writting etc were delivered during this meeting.

Renal Disease

Renal diseases are most silent and progress over time, one should be aware of its present. I would recommend people to include routine urine FEME test in their routine medical check-up.
It can be a good screening tools to deect some early form of the renal diseases. But, the impurity of the routine urine catch during the urine sample collection will made the interpreation of urine FEME difficult. Hence, a proper mid stream urine collection is important. Let us discuss the mid stream urine collection method in next post.
